## Common questions

**What does a software architect do?**

A software architect decides how a system is put together before it is built: which parts exist, how they talk to each other, where data lives, and which technologies are used. The aim is a system that can grow and be maintained without being rewritten.

**When do I need a software architect rather than a developer?**

When the decisions are expensive to reverse: a new product, a platform with several kinds of user, a system that must integrate with others, or a codebase that has become hard to change. For a small site with a known shape, a developer is enough.

**Does the architect at Paraline Tech also write the code?**

Yes. Architecture and build are done by the same team, so the design is one that has to work in practice, and nothing is lost in a handover between the two.
