**What is a full stack software engineer?**

A full stack engineer builds every layer of an application: the database, the server-side logic and API, and the interface people use. One engineer can take a feature from idea to production.

**Is a full stack engineer better than separate front-end and back-end engineers?**

For a small or medium product it is usually faster and cheaper, because nothing waits on a handover. Very large systems benefit from specialists on each side.
